FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about TrustOffice and how it helps you govern your structures correctly.
General
Who is TrustOffice for?
TrustOffice is for anyone responsible for governing a trust or entity structure: individual trustees, business owners with trusts and LLCs, and their advisors (CPAs, attorneys, financial planners). If you have a fiduciary duty or help clients meet theirs, TrustOffice helps you do that job correctly.
Does this replace my attorney or CPA?
No. TrustOffice is a governance discipline tool, not a legal or tax advisor. Your attorney handles structure design and legal questions. Your CPA handles tax strategy and filings. TrustOffice helps you execute ongoing governance—meetings, minutes, distributions, documentation—so those professionals have clean records to work with.
Can I use this if I already have trusts and LLCs in place?
Yes. Most TrustOffice users have existing structures. You add your entities, upload your governing documents, and start using TrustOffice for ongoing governance. There is no need to restructure anything.
Is it only for one kind of trust or entity structure?
No. TrustOffice supports revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, grantor trusts, dynasty trusts, charitable trusts, LLCs, corporations, limited partnerships, and holding structures.
Governance and Audits
How does TrustOffice help if I am audited or a decision is challenged?
TrustOffice maintains timestamped records of all governance actions: meetings held, decisions made, distributions documented, compensation approved. When auditors or attorneys request documentation, you can export organized records showing what was decided, when, by whom, and why. Clean records simplify audits and strengthen your position in disputes.
What is the Governance Health Score?
The Governance Health Score is a 0-100 metric that reflects how well your structures are governed. It considers minutes completion, overdue tasks, compensation alignment, distribution documentation, and annual reviews. Green (80-100) means healthy. Yellow (50-79) means attention needed. Red (below 50) means action required.
What if I have been neglecting governance for years?
You are not alone. TrustOffice helps you establish a go-forward rhythm without requiring you to reconstruct the past. Start with today and build consistent patterns from here. Your Health Score will improve over time.
Features
What is the Governance Calendar?
The Governance Calendar automatically generates tasks based on your entity types and jurisdictions. Annual meetings, distribution reviews, and filing deadlines appear without manual entry. Reminders arrive before due dates. Overdue items are flagged on your dashboard.
How does the distribution workflow work?
When you make a distribution, TrustOffice walks you through the process: classify the payment type (income, principal, discretionary), confirm solvency, document any trustee recusals, and record the authorization.
Can multiple people access the same account?
Yes. TrustOffice supports multiple users with different permission levels. Co-trustees can share administration. Advisors can have read-only or collaborative access. You control who sees what and who can take which actions.
Security and Data
How is my data protected?
TrustOffice uses encryption for all data in transit and at rest. Access is controlled through role-based permissions. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You own your data and can export it at any time. Minutes, distribution records, entity profiles, and other documents are all exportable. If you leave TrustOffice, you take your complete governance history with you.
Is TrustOffice a tax avoidance tool?
No. TrustOffice is a governance discipline tool that helps you maintain structures correctly. It does not provide tax advice, create tax loopholes, or enable asset hiding. It is for trustees who want their structures to behave properly and withstand scrutiny.
